Who we are

  • As professionals trained in traditional psychotherapy and educational models, we bring added training and experience in our respective creative disciplines: art, dance, drama, movement, music, and writing.
  • As practicing artists, we recognize and celebrate the innate healing properties of the creative process in our own lives.
  • We share and facilitate our own contemplative practices at no charge for the benefit and well-being of our community.

Please note: Practitioners affiliated with The Center for Mindful Living are independent educators and clinicians who share expenses and administrative functions.  While we share a name and a space, our services are wholly independent and we are each individually responsible for those services.

Contact Louisa

Louisa Foster, Psy.D., RDT/BCT

Louisa is a licensed clinical psychologist and a Registered Drama Therapist and Board Certified Trainer in practice for over 15 years, specializing in the treatment of anxiety disorders. With a bachelor degree in French and Theater from Washington University in St. Louis, Louisa pursued psychodrama training at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago. After her doctorate in clinical psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, she completed her drama therapy training at Kansas State University. Louisa studied Buddhist Psychology at the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies in Massachusetts. She founded The Center for Mindful Living in 2006, is Trained Teacher of Mindful Self Compassion, and leads numerous workshops to help people develop emotional resiliency and experience greater joy in their lives.

Laura Crosby

Laura has been studying meditation, mindfulness and Buddhism for more than 10 years, taking courses with Mindful Schools, Omega Institute and Shambhala Publications. She facilitates meditation sessions and the mindfulness study group at The Center for Mindful Living.  Laura enjoyed a 20-year career in communications and weaves that experience into her engagement with our meditation and mindfulness community.

Pamela Mueggenberg, M.A., LMHP, LPC

Pamela is a licensed professional counselor and art therapist focusing on trauma and attachment. She has her undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Visual Arts and received her Masters in Art Therapy Counseling from Marylhurst University in Portland, Oregon. Dan Weidner, M.A., LMHP

Daniel is a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner and a Certified Professional Counselor. He has studied and practiced mindfulness meditation (Shamatha-Vipassana) for over 30 years. He uses his practice to stay present with the vicissitudes of his personal life, and has incorporated them into his work with seriously emotionally disturbed and mentally ill children, adolescents and their families. Dan continues to explore the human experience through a variety of avenues including Zen and Tibetan Buddhism, yogic practices, the current research into the effects of mindfulness practices on the human mind and body, and a range of therapeutic approaches and practices. ​

Kara Cavel, LICSW, PhD

Dr. Kara Cavel is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in the state of Nebraska.  Kara believes the client is the expert in his or her life and embraces the ethical standard of self-determination within the clinical setting.  Kara uses a psychodynamic framework to understand human problems and relationship-based interventions to facilitate growth and change.  Kara emphasizes her clients’ strengths and works to enhance the developmental capacities of individuals through careful listening, mutuality and empathic attunement.  Kara believes the therapeutic process fosters the development of authenticity and new ways of relating to both the self and others. www.drcavel.com

CONTACT JENNA

Jenna Lopez, LICSW, LIMHP

 Jenna Lopez is both a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner in Omaha who has been practicing since 2010. Jenna came to Omaha for college from a small town in Kansas and considers herself a Midwest gal through and through. She has an amazing partner and two lovely little humans. When not working, you can find Jenna spending time with family and friends, exploring the outdoors and enjoying music. Jenna is always working to remove the stigma around mental health in order to take the shame away from acknowledging our humanity and seeking help when we are struggling. Jenna uses a client centered and strengths-based approach in assisting people to reach their desired goals. Jenna's experience is working with individuals who have experienced childhood or sexual trauma, anxiety and those struggling with their sexual orientation or gender identity. It is her priority to create a space in which humans can feel free to express themselves without shame.

CONTACT HILLARY

Hillary Rubesin, PhD, LIMHP, CPC, REAT

Dr. Hillary Rubesin is a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner, a Certified Professional Counselor, and a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist. She holds Masters and Doctoral degrees in Expressive Therapies and utilizes various arts forms, such as visual art, music, movement, creative writing, and drama within her clinical practice. Hillary is also trained in various talk therapy modalities, different somatic practices, Internal Family Systems, and EMDR, and will work with clients to determine what therapeutic techniques might best lead to insight and healing. Hillary is open to working with all populations, but her past clinical work has focused on young adults, refugees and immigrants, adults living with anxiety and depression, LGBTQ+ clients, and clients moving through transitions, grief, and loss. Beyond her clinical work, Hillary supervises new clinicians, leads workshops and trainings, and teaches in the Expressive Therapies graduate division at Lesley University. She also works with various international nonprofits to help bring expressive therapies to populations across the globe.

Marilyn Erickson, APRN

Marilyn’s approach is to foster a partnership with clients that facilitates engagement in the medical and healing process. This partnership is reliant on a trusting, safe, and reciprocal relationship between provider and client. Marilyn is an experienced family and psychiatric nurse practitioner. The combination of experience in both fields allows Marilyn to offer a holistic approach in her clients’ care. She has a broad knowledge base in both family medicine and psychiatric care of all ages. She has experience in treating clients with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, substance abuse, autistic and other developmental disorders, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, addiction and dependency disorders and disruptive behavior disorders. She offers 3 types of services for clients: medication management, movement/relaxation therapy, and women’s integrative medicine.
